Founded in 1990, ‘Western Maritime Training’ in Plymouth is a well-established maritime training course provider.
Training is offered to mariners at every level, from STCW Basic Safety Training, through to full Master qualifications. We can offer tailored packages for individual students, and are also able to offer flexible training packages tailored to specific requirements for commercial clients.

About ‘Western Maritime Training’ in Plymouth
At Western Maritime Training we are licenced to ISO 9001:2015 accredited standard. We also have full SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority) certification. Western Maritime Training are the ‘AMERC licenced radio’ training centre in the South West. We are the ‘Seafish Industry Authority’ provider of safety training for the Commercial Fishing Industry.
Our instructors are Master Mariners and technical specialists, holding professional training qualifications, and come from all areas of the maritime industry. These expert tutors have spent their careers on superyachts; navy warships; fishing boats; tall ships; submarines and merchant navy vessels, working all over the world.
We have excellent facilities within Crownhill Fort, including our 4-Bridge Simulator Training Suite, a GMDSS Radio Suite and a dedicated engineering workshop, in addition to other specialist equipment to assist in our training delivery.
We are proud to have supported thousands of students on their journey through maritime training, ensuring we continually offer mentoring and support for all individuals. This ranges from helping to identify the correct qualifications for their chosen career path, to assisting with the completion of application forms for MCA examinations, funding or grant applications.
Our courses have small student numbers to allow everyone the chance to interact, ask questions and learn as much as they possibly can whilst training with us. If sitting in a classroom seems like a distant memory, we can help to put them at ease and prepare them for study on our courses.
Inside Crownhill Fort, we have very secure all-day parking for students inside the gates of the fort, which is free of charge.

Western Maritime Training, in Plymouth, is based inside Crownhill Fort – a preserved 19th century fort, steeped in history, which was used by the military until from 1872 – 1986. Our training centre which was established in 1991, houses industry-leading, state-of-the-art facilities which make us the regional supplier of choice for quality maritime training.
