About This Course

Seafish Firefighting course is a mandatory one-day safety course for commercial fishermen covering fire prevention, marine fire principles, and practical extinguisher use. It is required by the Seafish Industry Authority alongside sea survival, first aid, and health and safety for new crew members.

The course aims to provide candidates with the knowledge of how fire starts on board and how to prevent it, and ensure they are confident in the procedures to follow in the event of a fire. 

What We Cover

The Seafish Fire Fighting course is delivered using a combination of classroom sessions and practical sessions (using a variety of extinguishers and fire blankets) to consolidate the skills and procedures taught. The course covers: 

• Understanding of how fire starts and spreads 
• Understanding the cause of explosions 
• Actions to be taken on the discovery of a fire or on hearing the alarm 
• Fire-fighting systems onboard 
• The different types and correct use of extinguishers 
• Correct measures for casualty search, rescue and recovery 

Pre-Course Requirements

Candidates undergoing firefighting training must be physically fit and will be required to complete and sign a confidential medical declaration to make us aware of any health problems, disabilities or injuries that we may need to take into account whilst attending this physically demanding course.

Assessment and Certification

Candidates are subject to continuous practical assessment with a full and active debriefing of exercises.

Following successful completion of the course, you will receive the Seafish approved  Fire Fighting certificate.
