Class 2 Deck Officer – Fishing CoC

About This Qualification

This qualification is for experienced fishermen who want to obtain a Deck Officer (Fishing Vessel) Class 2, Certificate of Competency.

To obtain this qualification there are four formal Qualifications Scotland examinations, plus the required short courses.

You will study for the Qualifications Scotland examinations in:

• Chartwork and Pilotage
• Meteorology
• Navigation
• Safety and Management

What We Cover

You will study in two separate blocks of 6 weeks to enable you to return to sea between studying.

First 6 week block:

17^th May 2027 to 25^th June 2027           

You will study for 2 subjects which are:

• Chartwork and Pilotage
• Meteorology

Specification

A Deck Officer, Class 2 – Fishing, Certificate of Competency is required by Skippers of UK registered fishing vessels of more than 16.5 metres in length and qualifies the holder to command a fishing vessel up to 30 metres in length in the Limited Area around the UK, or as Mate on a Class 1 fishing vessel in unlimited waters.
