About This Qualification
This qualification is for experienced fishermen who want to obtain a Deck Officer (Fishing Vessel) Class 3, Certificate of Competency. This certificate allows you to act as Mate, as required, on fishing vessels Over 24m and Under 30m and is also useful if you act as a watchkeeper on fishing vessels over 16.5m.
We will be running the Class 3 Deck Officer course from 24th August to 25th September 2026.
Funding is available from Seafish towards the course fees.
What We Cover
You’ll study in a five week long block and cover all the subjects required, from navigation to bridge management.

A Deck Officer, Class 3 – Fishing – Certificate of Competency is required on fishing vessels between 24m to 30m.

Pre-Qualification Requirements
