BASIC HEALTH & SAFETY

The Seafish Basic Health and Safety course aims to provide new entrants to the commercial fishing industry the knowledge and skills required to work safely onboard a commercial fishing vessel. It is a mandatory requirement for everyone before working on a commercial fishing vessel. The course includes an understanding of the language used in the industry, individual roles and responsibilities, the dangers of the job and which skills are required to operate safely on board. 2 Years after completing the Basic Health and Safety course, all candidates must then attend the Seafish Safety Awareness and Risk Assessment course. Both of these courses are a legal requirement to work in the Commercial Fishing Industry.

SAFETY AWARENESS

The Seafish Safety Awareness course is a mandatory requirement for all fishermen with six months or more of experience, regardless of other qualifications held. Combining lectures, films, demonstrations and practical sessions, this course covers the day to day practical safety issues on board commercial fishing boats, reinforcing the knowledge needed and action to be taken in certain critical situations.
