NEW Deckhand Fishing course – Part 1

Overview

The five-day Deckhand Preparation Course provides essential training for individuals seeking to enter the commercial fishing industry. The course equips participants with the necessary skills and mandatory qualifications required to work safely aboard fishing vessels.  This course includes the Sea Survival and the Seafish Health & Safety courses.

Deckhand Course Content

The Deckhand Course combines practical training and classroom learning covering:

• Vessel and crew safety
• Gear handling and maintenance
• Catch management
• Maritime regulations
• Two mandatory qualifications:
  • STCW Sea survival course certificate
  • Seafish Health and Safety course certificate

What You Do Next

Following the completion of the five-day Deckhand Preparation Course, you will undertake a minimum of one month’s sea time on a UK commercial fishing vessel. You’ll gain hands-on experience and put your skills into practice, while building confidence and experience.

NEW Deckhand Fishing course – Part 2

Career Progression

After completing the 5-day initial training and gaining experience at sea, you can further advance your career with our five-day Deckhand Development Course.  This course includes the one-day First Aid at Sea and the Firefighting at Sea courses. You’ll:

• Expand your skillset
• Consolidate practical experience
• Gain two additional mandatory qualifications:
  • Seafish Fire fighting and fire prevention course certificate
  • STCW Elementary First aid at sea course certificate.

Who Can Apply

This course is designed for new entrants to the commercial fishing industry. No previous maritime experience is required.

Pre-Requisites for the Deckhand Course

• Complete application form
• Attend follow-up interview
• Undertake ENG1 medical to meet funding requirements (medical fee will be reimbursed)
