About This Qualification

• STCW Sea Survival Course
• STCW Elementary First Aid
• MCA Fire Fighting
• Seafish Basic Health and Safety

You can attend the courses over a 3-month period, but need to have the sea survival course before you do any work onboard.

What We Cover

The sea survival course has to be attended before you can go to sea. Boat’s skippers are required to keep copies of all safety training certificates on board, so copies need to be taken to your boat and given to the skipper on your first day.

Deckhands must be physically fit, have good eyesight, be able to communicate well with other people and be able to travel to the quayside at all hours of the day or night.

Jobs on board will range from preparing the deck and equipment for catching fish, operating and maintaining fishing gear and equipment and gutting and storage of fish. Deckhands might also help with cooking for crew members and keeping the vessel clean.

Specification

This qualification is available to anyone who has already studied and achieved the ‘OOW Tugs <500t qualification.’
