Deckhand Fishing

The following courses are required to work as a Deckhand on a commercial fishing vessel of any size. You can attend the courses over a 3-month period, but need to have the Sea Survival course before you do any work onboard.

The STCW Sea Survival Personal Survival Techniques course forms part of the mandatory basic safety training for all seafarers and includes a two-hour indoor practical pool session.

The MCA approved 1 day Fire Fighting course is aimed at skippers and crew of small vessels and is suitable for fishermen, workboat crew, boatmasters, inshore ferry operators and pilot vessel crew.

Seafish Health and Safety for Fishermen

Deckhand Fishing Health and Safety Assessment

The Seafish Basic Health and Safety course provides new entrants to the commercial fishing industry with the knowledge and skills required to work safely onboard a commercial fishing vessel. It is a mandatory requirement for everyone working on a commercial fishing vessel and must be taken within 3 months of starting work on a fishing vessel.
