About This Course

The Seafish Basic Health and Safety course aims to provide new entrants to the commercial fishing industry with the knowledge and skills required to work safely onboard a commercial fishing vessel.

The course includes an understanding of the language used in the industry, individual roles and responsibilities, the dangers of the job and which skills are required to operate safely on board.

What We Cover

The Seafish Basic Health and Safety course covers basic health and safety issues and safety practices in a dangerous working environment.

Topics also include safety equipment/clothing and guidelines on accident prevention. Understanding orders and onboard communications. The course is delivered via a combination of lectures, films and demonstrations.

Assessment and Certification

Candidates are assessed throughout the course and sit a multiple-choice paper in the final session. Successful candidates are awarded the Seafish Authority Basic Health and Safety Certificate.
