Seafish Navigation and Bridge Watchkeeping

The Seafish 5 day Navigation and Watchkeeping course is intended for anyone taking a navigational watch and skippers of vessels less than 16.5m operating beyond 20nm miles of a safe haven.

BASIC HEALTH & SAFETY

The Seafish Basic Health and Safety course aims to provide new entrants to the commercial fishing industry the knowledge and skills required to work safely onboard a commercial fishing vessel. It is a mandatory requirement for everyone before working on a commercial fishing vessel. The course includes an understanding of the language used in the industry, individual roles and responsibilities, the dangers of the job and which skills are required to operate safely on board. 2 Years after completing the Basic Health and Safety course, all candidates must then attend the Seafish Safety Awareness and Risk Assessment course. Both of these courses are a legal requirement to work in the Commercial Fishing Industry.

STCW Elementary First Aid

NAEST (NAVIGATION AIDS, EQUIPMENT AND SIMULATOR TRAINING) – OPERATIONAL LEVEL

SAFETY AWARENESS

SEA SURVIVAL (PERSONAL SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES)

The STCW Sea Survival Personal Survival Techniques course forms part of the mandatory basic safety training for all seafarers. Also, Seafarers who hold an existing personal survival techniques (PST) certificate are required to complete this updating training course to maintain proficiency under the STCW 2010 Manila Amendments (STCW Section A-VI/1 & table A-VI/1-1). The purpose of this STCW sea survival techniques training is to provide the essential knowledge and experience of personal survival principles to maximise the chances of survival in the event of an emergency, including practical training in the use of life jackets and inflatable life rafts.

GMDSS GOC – GENERAL OPERATORS CERTIFICATE

The GMDSS GOC (General Operator’s Certificate) is the highest level of radio operator’s licence available to the professional mariner. It meets all STCW conditions and is a requirement for unlimited MCA Certificates of Competence. The GMDSS GOC permits the holder to operate the radio installation on board any vessel operating in any Sea Area, with additional responsibility for equipment testing and undertaking any emergency communications.

ECDIS OPERATIONAL

The aim of the ECDIS Operational course is to train Bridge Watchkeeping Officers and other interested personnel in the use of Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems. The essential legal and theoretical background to the use and carriage of ECDIS is covered in sufficient detail to allow the student to use the systems correctly and safely. Regulation II/1, II/2 and II/3 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended, and Tables, A-II/1, A-II/2 and A-II/3 of the STCW Code. This training meets the learning outcomes of IMO Model Course 1.27, delivered over a period of at least 40 hours.  Successful completion of this course will result in the issue of STCW certification for generic ECDIS training (to IMO 1.27) and Transas Navi Sailor 4000 ECDIS Type Specific equipment training.
