  • GMDSS GOC – GENERAL OPERATORS CERTIFICATE

    The GMDSS GOC (General Operator’s Certificate) is the highest level of radio operator’s licence available to the professional mariner. It meets all STCW conditions and is a requirement for unlimited MCA Certificates of Competence. The GMDSS GOC permits the holder to operate the radio installation on board any vessel operating in any Sea Area, with additional responsibility for equipment testing and undertaking any emergency communications.

  • Deck Officer Class 2 Fishing Part Two 6 weeks

    This course is for candidates who want to obtain a Deck Officer (Fishing Vessel) Class 2, Certificate of Competency. To obtain this qualification there are four formal SQA examinations, plus the required short courses. You will study for the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) examinations in: Chartwork and Pilotage Meteorology Navigation Safety and Management

  • BASIC HEALTH & SAFETY

    The Seafish Basic Health and Safety course aims to provide new entrants to the commercial fishing industry the knowledge and skills required to work safely onboard a commercial fishing vessel. It is a mandatory requirement for everyone before working on a commercial fishing vessel. The course includes an understanding of the language used in the industry, individual roles and responsibilities, the dangers of the job and which skills are required to operate safely on board. 2 Years after completing the Basic Health and Safety course, all candidates must then attend the Seafish Safety Awareness and Risk Assessment course. Both of these courses are a legal requirement to work in the Commercial Fishing Industry.

  • Small Ships Navigation & Radar

    Western Maritime Training Crownhill Fort, Crownhill Fort Rd, Plymouth, Devon, United Kingdom

    This course covers the basic principles and operation of Radar, Electronic Navigation Aids (including Electronic Chart Systems) and Passage Planning, and consists of equal time in the classroom and in the simulator suite, allowing real time, real ship exercises to be carried out. This course is designed for serving seafarers who hold a certificate of Service or of Competency, who are serving on ships of limited size (under 500 tons) who have not previously undertaken approved training in the use of radar and other electronic navigation systems, and who need to update their qualifications to meet the STCW requirements. Candidates successfully passing the assessment at the end of the course will receive a certificate issued by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency-approved Centre.

  • SEAFISH FIRE FIGHTING

    Seafish Firefighting course is a mandatory one-day safety course for commercial fishermen covering fire prevention, marine fire principles, and practical extinguisher use.
