About This Course

Course Entry Requirements

This course is for experienced Fisherman only. To attend this course, you must be at least 18 years old and be able to prove that you have at least 6 months of sea time and have successfully completed the following mandatory courses:

• Sea Survival

• First Aid

• Firefighting

• Seafish Health and Safety

Please note: Seafish will not issue a Safety Awareness certificate unless all four of the above courses have been completed.

The Seafish Safety Awareness course is a mandatory requirement for all fishermen with at least six months of experience regardless of other qualifications held.

Combining lectures, films, demonstrations and practical sessions, this course covers the day to day practical safety issues on board commercial fishing boats, reinforcing the knowledge needed and action to be taken in certain critical situations.

Course Content

This Seafish Safety Awareness training covers the improvement of safety on board fishing vessels and the dangers associated with fishing, including:

• Legal principles and requirements
• Using M-Notices to locate guidance
• Identifying hazards
• Risk assessment and risk reduction

Assessment and Certification

Candidates are assessed throughout the course. Successful candidates will be awarded the Seafish Authority Safety Awareness certificate.
