About This Course

All seafarers employed in any capacity on ships or any other vessel to which the ISPS code applies will require a Proficiency in Security Awareness certificate.

The course provides the necessary knowledge and proficiency to those intending to work on ships who will not have any designated security duties.

When purchasing this as a standalone course, the cost is £80.00 (inclusive of VAT). This course is free to those purchasing the STCW Training Week package, or any other course within the STCW week.

When purchasing the STCW Week or any of its composite courses, please indicate to us that you require the Security awareness course and a place will be reserved for you free of charge.

What We Cover

Proficiency in Security Awareness (A-VI/6-1) is a course offering new and experienced crew members the basic information required to carry out security duties onboard and help you to have a heightened security awareness.

This course aims to provide seafarers with the necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency to protect and maintain their own and others security at sea in accordance with international regulations.

The following competencies are intended to be gained

• Contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness.
• Recognise security threats
• Understand the need for, and methods of maintaining security awareness and vigilance

Pre-Course Requirements

The course is compulsory for all new crew members and for existing crew members unless they have had at least six months documented sea service on an approved vessel between 1st January 2009 and 1st January 2012 or already hold the SSO or CSO qualification. Full details are in MSN 1865 (M).
